January BarkBox Review and giveaway

Those of you who follow my blog will know I am a big fan of BarkBox, and in fact I found out today I was one of their first ever customers when they launched 13 months ago.

Each month you receive a box with 4 - 6 items in it. They include a variety of items, all of them a surprise until the box arrives. Check back through my previous blog posts to see previous box contents.

My dogs know they get a box each month, and I let them rip open the box. This months box must have smelled extra good as it didn't take Bluey long to open the box and pull out the first treat.

The first treat was a 100% beef bully stick from Barkworthies - these have been included in the box before and are a huge hit with my two. Luckily I was able to break it into two so they could have half each.

The next item was a 'wee-nut' from Ruff Dawg, it's a rubber toy made in the USA and you can stuff it with treats.

The yumzies are all natural, grain free treats from Nootie, my two have had these in the past and again are huge huge fans of them. Hopefully they will enjoy the peanut butter flavored one.

How cute is this toy, apparently he is called Elton the Octopus and he is from Jax and Bones, not only do they make cute toys, they donate a portion of each sale to  The Rescue Train - an organization that is dedicated to saving animal lives.

When you sign up for your BarkBox you select the size of your dog, small (0-20lbs) - this is the size I get each month, medium (20-50lbs) or large (50lbs+). You then have three subscription options. You can pay monthly which is $29 a month, or you can pay up front for 3 months which is $23 a month, or you can go for the 6 month subscription which works out at $18.20 a month, this is the option I go for. BarkBox also donate 10% of all proceeds to local shelters and rescues, I'm not sure which ones, as I couldn't see anything on their site, but they do send an update email each month (which I must confess I don't read!) so it maybe featured in there.

June Bark Box

It was Jess and Bluey's favorite time of the month yesterday when the mailman delivered their BarkBox. Yet again they weren't disappointed.

 

Everything was very well sealed this month, so it took them a good few minutes of sniffing before they gave up and waited for me to unwrap things :)

The first item I took out was some beef freeze dried food from Stella & Chewy's. There was no feeding instructions on the packet, so I broke a small piece off to see if the dogs would eat it - of course they did! So between them I let them eat it. I went online later and found out it can be fed to them as it came or re-hydrated with water. I have heard lots of good and bad things about feeding a raw diet, so not sure I would make the change to a raw diet just yet.

The next edible treat in the box was the double nut super boost treats from Tumbleweed & Eddie's At first when I gave them to my dogs they turned their nose up and wouldn't eat them, which is unlike them, but I think they were hoping for more of the beef food!! I tried them with these treats again today and they both ate them straight away.

 

The next two items were my favorite ones in the box. There was a minty fruit smoothie from Mr Barksmiths Both of my dogs are big fans of frozen treats, so I am sure they will love it, especially in the warm weather we are currently having.  I have placed it in my freezer and will be letting them try it in the next few days.

Most dog owners have heard of kong toys, and I thought this next item was pretty similar until I read all about it. The Gimme gummy from safemade and is made of food grade silicon and is freezer, oven and dishwasher safe. They have a recipe section on their site, for some cool ideas for filling the toy too. I normally put peanut butter in these type of toys, so will be interested to see what new ideas they have.

The final item was a soggy paws dog towel from Farfetched. It is a towel with pockets making easier to hold and dry your dog at the same time. I plan on leaving mine in my car for beach days.

April BarkBox

Jess and Bluey and I all agree that April's BarkBox was the best box so far. All three of us loved it. I also want to say a special thank you to Carly for being so great and quick at responding to my emails :)

As usual both dogs were eager to check out the box as soon as it arrived, and Bluey was quick to try and take things out of the box this month too!

It turned out the reason for the extreme eagerness was this ring shaped bully stick from Barkworthies. Bluey quickly removed it and ran off, so I had to retrieve it quickly for this photo, then proceed to teach them sharing! Bluey was very good and after a short while he let Jess finish it off. This is definitely something I am going to be buying for them in the future, but maybe a bigger version as it didn't take them long to eat it.

The next item I also let them have straight away which they enjoyed was the cookies from Little Eatz, when I opened the packet I was 'wow these smell good enough to eat' and was tempted to try one, but thought no I'm not that hungry that I want to eat dog cookies. Then later on I was reading the information card in the box and it turns out the cookies are edible for humans and dogs - what an awesome idea, well I didn't need to be told twice! I was straight back to the pack trying them and I can say they are very yummy, but don't worry I'll let the pups keep their cookies.

The next product was some eco friendly doggy poop bags from Eco Dog Planet, and will of course come in very handy and some vitamins fro K-10+ that you dissolve in  your dogs water bowl. I received the calcium one, but they do a variety of ones. Not too sure if I will use this as I'm not too keen on adding things to my dog's water.

The last (but by no means least) item is my favorite. The Freezy Pups kit. My dogs love eating ice cubes and doggy frozen yogurt, so this is going to be used lots in the summer. It is basically an ice cube trade (bone shaped of course!) and comes with four organic flavors - white cheddar cheese, chicken soup, juicy apple and sweet potato n maple. Sounds good enough to eat. My two are going to love these as treats in the summer to help keep them cool.

I nearly forgot I received something for me too :) A very nice Barkbox tshirt, I haven't had a chance to wear it yet as it smells of bully sticks after being in the box, so is currently waiting to be washed, but I look forward to wearing it to the dog park and telling everyone about BarkBox.
